Legion System Update #5: A Shop and Some Painters, Soon

Nothing new on the live site this week, but two things are close: a shop, and a place for community painters to show their work. Both are coming soon, and I'll say more when they're ready.

Welcome to Legion System Update #5.

Nothing new reached the live site this week. No push on Wednesday, so what you see is what you saw seven days ago.

That would make for a very short update, so instead I'm going to show you two things that are close to ready. Close. Not here. I'll be careful with that word.

1. A shop, coming soon

Legion Comps has always been about quests. The shop is something else, and it's on its way.

The idea is simple: a proper place to browse and buy miniatures and kits, with a basket, a checkout and an order page that tells you where your things are.

I'm not going to list what's in it, and I'm not going to quote a date beyond "soon". Shops have a habit of changing shape in the last fortnight, and I'd rather not announce something and then spend a month explaining why it looks different.

What I will say is that it has had more tidying than anything I've built so far. I've looked at the order page more times than any sane person should.

It isn't live yet, so there's nothing to buy and nothing to look for. When it opens, you'll hear about it here first.

2. Painters, coming soon

The other half is the painter system, and this one is Lewis's fault.

It's a place for community painters to have a proper page: a profile, a portfolio of pieces, and the sort of work they're happy to take on. You'll be able to browse them, look at what they've painted and get in touch.

There's also going to be a "painter of the month", to put somebody's best work at the front of the room.

Painters are checked before their pages go public, so what you see should be a painter and not a stock photo.

I won't say more than that for now. The details are still being settled, and I'd rather give you a short honest paragraph than a long wrong one.

I expect Lewis will take painter of the month very seriously. I expect a scorecard. I hope it's laminated.

3. What happens next

Another update, next week.

By then there may be more to say about both of these. There may also be a fix and a joke. Either way, you'll hear about it here.

Rob remains at the computer.

He has now looked at a pixel-art paint pot for longer than is healthy, and has no regrets.

Enjoyed this? Send it to someone who needs it.
